Wayfinder Echoes
Echoes in Wayfinder are modifications that can be socketed into weapons and characters. Echoes increase stats or add effects that can alter the gameplay significantly.
List of Echoes not available yet. The available Echoes weren't officially shown. Since Wayfinder is under NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) the list of Echoes has to stay empty for a while. But you can find every publicly available piece of information in the FAQ below.
What Are Echoes?
Echoes in Wayfinder are items that grant stats or special effects. Echoes can be socketed into items and characters to increase their stats or to add completely new effects.
With everything we know so far Echoes will be comparable to mods in Warframe. Digital Extremes, the publisher of Wayfinder, is also the developer of Warframe, so similarities in game systems are not unlikely. Speculations below are based on this assumption.
How To Obtain Echoes In Wayfinder?
Each creature in Wayfinder drops a unique Echo. This means that players can farm specific creatures to hunt for certain Echoes for their character builds. Additionally, new seasons and content updates will introduce new creatures and new Echoes.
Based on this we can speculate that there will be more impactful and harder-to-get Echoes. The more impactful Echoes are likely to drop from specific boss enemies in dungeons or even world bosses in Wayfinder. In this context, more impactful could mean that these Echoes add passive effects and influence the play style of the character, while normal Echoes just add stats.
What Does Echo Capacity Mean?
The concepts of Echo Slots and Echo Capacity were mentioned by Airship Syndicate in their December AMA. To be able to use an Echo to augment items or characters in Wayfinder, there has to be a Echo Slot to put the Echo in. The amount of Echoes that can be used at the same time depends on the amount of available Echo Slots and the total available Echo Capacity.
But what is "Echo Capacity"?
If we speculate with Warframe as a reference, then each Echo has a capacity costs while each item and character has a Echo Capacity. The total amount of the required capacity from all Echoes can not be higher than the Echo Capacity the item or character has available.
From the hints we got we can expect that a lot of build diversity and theorycrafting will find its roots in optimizing Echoes. Depending on the drop rates there could even evolve specific farming builds, that are optimized to farm Echoes as fast as possible.
