How To Obtain New Characters in Wayfinder?

All Wayfinders - the characters in Wayfinder - can be unlocked by playing the game. Once unlocked, they have to be crafted with specific crafting materials.

Characters can also be bought in the shop via microtransactions (MTX). The developers emphasized that there is no loot box system in Wayfinder to obtain new characters. Buying new characters will be fair and transparent.

When Will New Characters Be Released?

Airship Syndicate, the developer of Wayfinder, announced that they will be releasing new characters for Wayfinder with every season. Seasons will be an important part of Wayfinder to introduce new content, new lore, and new characters.

Community Manager SOLIDAge also gave some insights regarding plans on new characters and how important it is to release new Wayfinders on a regular base:

[...] we're working on at least 4 characters right now. Some close to ready, some in early Concepting but we'll probably be 4-5 ahead if we want to keep up. It's aggressive like I said and a challenge for the team but we know it's important for a live game.

What Characters Will Be Coming Next?

We have some details for three of the upcoming characters:

• One character will have his focus on martial arts maybe like a monk.
• One character will be a pet class maybe like a necromancer or hunter.
• One character is shown as REDACTED on the offical page but was shown in gameplay footage. We know she uses poison.

There will also be two more characters highly specialized in supporting and/or healing their team mates.

How Many Abilities Does A Character Have?

Every character in Wayfinder has four unique character-specific abilities. One of these abilities is an ultimate ability. Additionally, every character has a 5th ability depending on the weapon the character has equipped. All weapons in Wayfinder provide one unique weapon ability.

Starting out with a level 1 character in Wayfinder will only unlock the first ability. A character needs to collect experience points to level up and unlock more abilities.

What Are Archetypes in Wayfinder?

All characters of Wayfinder can be grouped by their archetype. Wayfinder has 3 different Archetypes: Warmaster, Arcanist, and Survivalist.

The archetype brings specific passive effects, that all characters of the same archetype share. It can be assumed, that these passive effects might have synergies with specific weapons and make some combinations stronger than others.

Are All Characters Human?

All currently confirmed Wayfinders are human. But a Community Manager for Wayfinder confirmed, "that a non-human character is well beyond the concept phase".

Character Creation And Customization

Wayfinder does not have a character creation that allows players to design a character with body types, facial settings and other customizations. Characters in Wayfinder are static, like they are in e.g. MOBA's.

This is important, because players unlock new Wayfinders, add the new Wayfinders to their roster and can swap between them without creating alt-characters like in more traditional MMORPGs.

Airship emphasized that there will be a lot of customizations for each character with skins, cosmetics, and customization options. The goal is, that the same character still looks quite different from player to player.
